Are you golfing today?
I hope you are!!
If So…Who You Will Be Playing For
Dear Patriot Golf Day Supporters,
In the fall of 2008, I witnessed great progress on my third tour of duty in Iraq. We have made tremendous strides toward democracy, but it has required great sacrifice. To date, nearly 200,000 U.S. military dependents have had a parent or spouse killed or disabled in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan of those 87% don’t qualify for federal benefits.
To help repay those men and women in uniform for their sacrifice, we are gearing up for a different operation: Patriot Golf Day 2011. Golf Courses across America will unite on Labor Day Weekend (September 2-5) to raise scholarship dollars for our military families. In 2008 nearly 4,000 courses participated. Our goal in 2011 is 5,000. We are on our way with registrations coming in every day!
Over the last 4 years, PGA Professionals and golfers across the nation helped to raise over $8.5 million for the cause. Those dollars have provided scholarships to over 2,000 military dependents across our great country. I humbly ask that you join me once again on this mission.
The Folds of Honor Foundation is committed to leave no family behind and cannot complete this mission without you. On behalf of these families, the PGA of America, USGA, and the Folds of Honor Foundation, thank you in advance for your dedication to this cause.
Please register your course for Patriot Golf Day or show your support by playing golf at a participating course.
PGA Professionals who host an event and submit funds to the Folds of Honor Foundation will receive TWO MSR Credits.
Thank you for your support and patriotism!
Godspeed,
Major Dan “Noonan” Rooney, PGA
I hope you will be teeing it up today with a Patriot Golf partner and next year, once the chemo is a distant memory, I plan on joining you for a round of golf which will benefit Veteran’s families!
