How to Stop Indulging Your Limiting Beliefs

The struggle is real. And with the dawn of each new day, our confidence must do battle with the limiting beliefs that echo around in our heads.

If you look at the image above you’ll see an assortment of limiting beliefs I’ve heard in the course of my business coaching and life coaching with clients.

According to Wikipedia, a Belief is the state of mind in which a person thinks something to be the case, with or without there being empirical evidence to prove that something is the case with factual certainty.

Our beliefs can either be empowering or disempowering. And over time, because our actions or inactions follow our beliefs, they will create our reality.

So if the battlefield is our minds, what strategy can we use to silence our limiting beliefs, gain confidence, and achieve more in life and in business?

Identify and Itemize

In order to win the battle, you need to know who the enemy is. You start the process of overcoming our limiting beliefs by naming them.

Think about a major goal you want to achieve, now start making a list of all thoughts that you feel are holding you back. Once you have named and listed your limiting beliefs you can begin the process of letting go of them.

Investigate and Isolate

The root cause of limiting beliefs can be traced back to a false narrative which is believed as true.

You stepped out of your comfort zone once and failed. Which then creates a false narrative. “So, in order not to fail, I must avoid trying new things.”

When we investigate our beliefs and isolate them to an event or a set of circumstances, or to an emotion or a perception they look different. We begin to see how certain factors influenced those outcomes.

Although we may find ourselves in similar situations in the future, the past doesn’t have to project itself into our present. Having this awareness offers us context to begin eliminating any false narratives we might believe is true.

Embrace and Embed

Once limiting beliefs have been identified and false narratives are exposed, they can be replaced with new beliefs. Over time, these empowering beliefs become embraced and embedded as truth which creates a new mindset. And when this new mindset takes hold, look out, because a transformation will occur before your very eyes and what was limited becomes limitless.

Personal Growth Action Plan:

You have to practice, practice, practice.

  • Practice thinking the new thoughts.
  • Practice tuning out the limiting beliefs if the false narrative starts to play in your head, by tuning into what you now know to be true.
  • Practice taking action based on your new and transformed beliefs.

And with practice, you prove yourself right by living up to these new empowering beliefs.

Spiritual Growth Action Plan:

Today’s culture confuses truth with facts. Truth is factual, but it’s also more. It cannot be changed, but it can change us.

God’s truth frees us from our limiting beliefs and those false beliefs found in our flesh. God’s Word calls us to walk in the truth, to love the truth, and to believe the truth.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free. John 8:32

90% of Success is Between Your Ears!

You stop indulging our limiting beliefs when you take action. Those first steps don’t have to be perfect, they just need to be headed in the right direction. Over time positive movement, in the right direction, will instill a new “positive” belief system and lead to your transformation from limited to limitless!

Enjoy the journey and let me know if I can help!
