Obviously the Light the Night Walk is about raising money, which funds research, and its that research which saves lives. Not some faceless statistic…people like David, whose only hope was to “finish well” as a lesson to his family, and Issac, a teenager who just wants to be a teenager and rejoin his classmates at Marist.
Please take a minute, actually 4 minutes, to watch the feature 11-Alive did on Issac del Valle and see if you can help!
Actually Issac is a neighbor of Shari and I, and he is one of the reasons we chose to form the Leveraging Life – Stick it 2 cancer team as part of the North Metro – Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The last few weeks I’ve appealed to the Leveraging Life community, friends, family, Roswell HS classmates, UGA alumni, North Point & Buckhead Church fellow volunteers, and the Troncalli Automotive family to consider donating and or walking with us on Saturday Oct. 1st at the Cumming Fairgrounds for the Light the Night Walk. Regardless of your ability to walk or donate I hope you will consider stopping by Marist High School on Friday September 30 between 12 – 8pm to see if you are a bone marrow match for Issac. One simple cotton swab on the inside of your mouth is all it takes.
As the video indicated the best probable match would be someone, who like Issac, is of both Caucasian and Hispanic decent.
There is a cost to be tested, but thanks to the Atlanta TV station 11-Alive the test is now only $115.00, rather than $175.00. If you feel you might be a match but can’t cover the cost of the test please contact me so arrangements can be made prior to your arrival at Marist.
If you don’t think you’re a match or can’t make it to Marist but want to join the fight, click here because the money being raised goes directly to Leukemia and Lymphoma research which funds the research for the cancer Issac is fighting.
Thank you for reading and most importantly thanks for Caring!
Hope to see you at the walk on Saturday!!
~Tom
